Alabama is losing one of its longtime linebackers to the transfer portal.

Linebacker Keanu Koht has filed paperwork to enter the portal, according to his agents at the A&P Sports Agency. Koht is expected to have 2 seasons of eligibility left.

Koht has been a part of the Alabama program since 2021, and he released a heartfelt statement on Tuesday on social media about what Alabama has meant to him through the years.

In very limited playing time, the redshirt junior from Vero Beach, Florida, has recorded 5 tackles, 3 of them solo, and half a sack this season. Koht has also recovered a fumble.

Last season, he had 4 tackles, 2 of them solo. In 2022, Koht split time between special teams and defense in 4 games played.

The start of his career in Tuscaloosa was anything but smooth, as Koht did not get any playing time as a freshman in 2021 and ended up redshirting at the end of the season.

Perhaps he will find the grass greener on the other side, as the saying goes, wherever Koht ends up transferring as he seeks to finally get more playing time.

Koht came to Alabama with much fanfare. He was a 4-star recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite, and Nick Saban got him to come to Tuscaloosa despite Koht’s interest in LSU.
