TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — To the surprise of no one, University of Alabama junior wide receiver Amari Cooper was named the Southeastern Conference’s offensive player of the week on Monday.

However, he wasn’t the only player to receive an SEC honor as senior tackle Austin Shepherd landed the offensive lineman award for his performance in his final regular season game.

Shepherd led the team with a grade of 92 percent as he started at right tackle, but moved to left tackle early in the fourth quarter when freshman Cam Robinson was injured (shoulder).

“It’s fine. It’s a little different,” Shepherd said earlier Monday. “I’ve played right tackle for all five years, so you just flip everything in your head and flip your feet and go out there and do it. You don’t really have time to think about it.”

Shepherd made numerous key blocks, including on Derrick Henry’s 25-yard touchdown run, and didn’t give up any sacks or pressures, with no missed assignments or penalties.

Cooper tied his own school record with 13 catches for 224 yards and three touchdowns in the 55-44 victory against Auburn.

He also set the new Alabama school record for touchdowns in a single season (14) and became UA’s all-time reception leader (207).

“The kid, he’s a great player,” junior center Ryan Kelly said. “No matter what circumstances are thrown at him, he’s going to make great plays. It’s never about him, it’s all about the team. He’s always been a team player ever since he’s been here. I think that’s what makes him so special.”

Cooper was also named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week and the Athlon Sports National Player of the Week.

Both players were also recognized as players of the week by the Alabama coaching staff along with senior fullback Jalston Fowler on offense, senior safety Nick Perry and junior defensive back Geno Smith on defense, and freshman Shaun Dion Hamilton, senior Christion Jones and freshman JK Scott on special teams.
