Former Alabama wide receiver Amari Jefferson entered the transfer portal on Thursday, according to a report.
The WR was ranked as a 4-star prospect and the 247Sports Composite ranking had Jefferson as the No. 35 WR and the No. 5 prospect out of Tennessee in the 2024 class. As a true freshman in 2024, Jefferson did not see any playing time with the Tide. Now, the highly-touted WR will look to resume his playing career elsewhere.
The news of Jefferson entering the transfer portal was first shared by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz:
Jefferson starred for the Baylor School in Chattanooga in high school. The WR received offers from Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, and others before committing to Alabama in August of 2023. The WR originally committed to Tennessee way back in 2021 to play baseball but decided to go to Alabama and play football instead.
The previous interest in Tennessee could make the Vols a team to watch for Jefferson. The Tennessee native took multiple visits to Knoxville during his recruitment process and is familiar with the coaching staff.
Jefferson becomes the 17th player to leave Alabama via the portal this offseason. The WR room, in particular, has been hit hard, with 6 players entering the portal. Kobe Prentice, Caleb Odom, Kendrick Law, and Emmanuel Henderson Jr., have all already committed elsewhere for the 2025 season.
While the Tide have seen several players leave, they’ve brought in 5 via the portal so far. Isaiah Horton, who previously played at Miami, will help the team make up for the lost WR production. Meanwhile, Kelby Collins Nikhai Hill-Green, and Cameron Calhoun were brought in to bolster the defensive depth.
Bryce Lazenby covers college football for Saturday Down South. A Nashville native, his previous stops include FanSided, Dimers, and The Leaf-Chronicle.
