Former Alabama QB AJ McCarron has been stuck behind Andy Dalton with the Cincinnati Bengals the past few years, but now he has a chance to lead his own team.

He was sent to the Buffalo Bills this offseason after the Bills traded starting QB Tyrod Taylor to the Cleveland Browns, and is now the favorite to be the team’s starter.

Buffalo DL/LB Jerry Hughes went to the same college as Dalton (TCU) and recently told Pro Football Talk that he’s excited to see if McCarron can become a leader on the Bills:

“Andy speaks highly of him,” Hughes said. “He’s a quarterback who likes to show up early, loves to work hard, doesn’t mind putting in the extra work. As a defender, you love that. You love someone who wants to take charge of the offense, wants to be captain of the ship. That’s something that I love to hear and can’t wait to see it and experience it.”

McCarron is taking over a squad that made the playoffs last season for the first time in a very long time. Now, he’ll try to prove he should have been a starter all along.

The Bills have a solid roster of players to go alongside their new quarterback, so they should at least be fun to watch this year.
