Colin Cowherd defends Mac Jones, takes GMs to task for ‘not taking the call’

Colin Cowherd has come to Mac Jones defense, as reports and word has circulated this week that the former Alabama quarterback reached out to the Crimson Tide coaching staff to find answers to New England’s struggling offense. And on the heels of that report, another piece of the story was that Bill Belichick has shopped Jones to other teams this offseason.
“If it is true they are shopping him, then shame on about 9 general managers for not taking the call,” Cowherd said. “Folks, he had no weapons in New England. One of the 2 years, they made a defensive coordinator his offensive coordinator, and yet his passer rating’s up against 90.”
Cowherd pointed out that during Jones’ rookie season, his passer rating was higher than a handful of notable AFC quarterbacks. And of the 19 players Jones has completed passes to in his New England career, none has made a Pro Bowl.
“It is just a collection of rotational guys, in the NBA like 4th guys off the bench guys,” Cowherd said. “They don’t have a 1, they don’t have a 2, and they just signed a 3, Juju Smith-Schuster to a contract that smart teams wouldn’t do.”
Cowherd suggested he’d take Jones over Derek Carr, and he likes Carr, and wouldn’t roll the dice on Kentucky’s Will Levis to Indianapolis, for example.
“People have swung so far the other way on Mac Jones, he has incredible value on the market,” Cowherd said.
