As the winds of the NFL Draft blow back to the Miami Dolphins possibly having the opportunity to draft former Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, a prominent former Dolphins quarterback has weighed in.

Dan Marino, who is a special adviser to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and GM Chris Grier, was a guest on a recent segment on “First Things First” with Nick Wright on FS1.

Tagovailoa is expected to be a high first-round pick, even after suffering a season-ending hip injury that will likely also keep him from participating in drills at the NFL Combine. This weekend, Tagovailoa told reporters that he plans to be in Las Vegas in person for this year’s draft.

“I think he’s one heck of a player for sure and a guy a lot of teams are going to really take a hard look at and someone will take him,” Marino said, via 247Sports, when asked if Miami would take Tagovailoa at No. 5. “I don’t know if it’ll be the Dolphins or who it’ll be. As far as him as a player and what he’s accomplished as a college player, I would say someone is going to take him and take him pretty high.”

His agent, Leigh Steinberg, has said Tagovailoa is expected to be healthy by April and able to participate in a throwing workout for prospective teams. Tagovailoa is expected to hold about a 40-minute session and make 60-80 throws in front of scouts.

“But it really comes down to his health and how he’s going to feel as far as his hip is concerned and how long he is going to have to sit out before he can play,” Marino said. “There’s a lot of question marks there, but at the same time, he’s a heck of a player and I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”
