Derrick Henry snubbed in AP Player of the Year vote
Alabama RB Derrick Henry was confirmed as the nation’s top college football player in the eyes of the Heisman voters earlier this month.
But the voters in the Associated Press Player of the Year selection felt differently.

The AP announced that Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey was the organization’s player of the year on Tuesday, which marked the first time in six years that the winner of the Heisman and the AP Player of the Year were not the same person.
The break down of first-place votes from the 60-voter panel was as follows:
Christian McCaffrey, Stanford — 29
Derrick Henry, Alabama — 16
Deshaun Watson, Clemson — 11
Keenan Reynolds, Navy — 2
Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma — 2
I am sure Henry will survive and be happy with his accomplishments
Not surprising considering the AP never even voted Bear Bryant as national coach of the year (the coaches did three times) though they later named the award for him. And that last Heisman winner not to be named AP Player of the Year? Mark Ingram.
Agreed.
No one ever remembers who won this. The Heisman is going to be remembered forever.
Atleast someone got it right
hear hear
Good, good…let the Butthurt flow through you.
Idiot allbarn fan……running mouth…….does not have any other thought then……Alabama……Alabama…….. Gotta love the fact Alabama is in your poor little pathetic little head!!!! hahaahaahaahahahaha ahahahaahaah…….
You know the first word that an Auburn fan speaks each day?…..Alabama
Nah I believe I wake up and
say,” Hmmm what time is it?”
Sure you do………Alabama seems to be in your mind all the time….
LOVE THIS !!! IT’S TRUE!!!
I love how if you disagree with someone, you must be “hating”. It’s impossible that you could be right.
Except this guy has posted something negative on numerous bama articles. If all his posts wasn’t somehow a shot at bama then he might could be taken seriously.
So now you read all my posts…..stalker much
It’s not hard to read all your posts. When I go to an article about Bama it’s full of your posts…..I mean it’s crazy to think a bama fan is looking at article about bama right?
Henry probably could care less, though the Tree supporters are likely frapping furiously about now.
From what I can tell, Barner fans are probably joining in the frapping-fest.
Replying to your own comment is like liking your own status: retarded.
Nonetheless, I was glad that Henry, out of the finalists, won the heisman. I don’t care who wins ap player of the year, the media isn’t credible anyways. I will say I am glad mcaffrey won something to commemorate his incredible performance throughout the season though.
The only way to edit as far as I can tell. So I was improvising.
The AP has always been anti-Bama and Derrick has not lost anything!
That would make them the only media outlet on the face of the earth that isn’t blind to anything not Crimson colored.
You must be young, most SEC schools have been snubbed for decades by the AP. It took the BCS and 7 straight titles for the media to start worshiping the SEC and they still don’t like us. They will break a contract and take the other poll with them to name a cheating california school their national champion, but not an undefeated AU team. And the AP is WAY bigger than one media outlet. Note the only undefeated teams fielded by OM and State do NOT have an AP national title, even though they had wins over AP contenders and even a win over the national champion one year. It just seems like they have special love for Bama because they are only one they used to take seriously. They still shaft them, too, when circumstances allow.
Not to take anything away from Henry he is awesome, but McCaffrey is just as deserving as Henry. I have pride in my entire state so I am glad that someone from one of the state’s schools brought some hardware home.
The Heisman is NOT actually an award for the ‘top player’
Henry isn’t even the best RB in his conference. The Heisman was a joke. Didn’t agree with AP winner either but it’s better than the next NFL bust that was fortunate enough to run behind Bama’s O-line. When no one learns from history, history repeats itself. Think I’m just salty? Go check out some yards per carry numbers and see how far down you have to scroll until you find Henry’s name.
You have posted a total of four times and each one has been some kind of shot at bama or a player from bama…….I can see that you clearly don’t have an agenda….
You, sir, have too much time on your hands.
How long do you think it takes to post?
Alabama currently has three starting running backs in the NFL, including a 2014 Pro Bowler. But they just give out starting positions in the NFL to guys that ride their teammates coattails, right? I don’t think; I know that you are just salty.
Yes, because you have to get 10 ypc in the nfl to be successful. Henry is NOT running behind Bama’s most dominant line, they should not have won the award they did. And 6 ypc is still pretty darned good. If you don’t think so, we’ll just let you live in your world and you can ignore when he starts running through linebackers. If anything limits him in the NFL, it might be versatility, but it’s not like Bama is trying to throw to him. Why would they?
I don’t think he was snubbed. I think they’re both great players and both deserve the awards they received. I don’t get why it matters anyways. It’s an individual award for a team based sport.
This guy seems to get it.
If the award didn’t matter, you people wouldn’t be arguing so fervently over it. We can all agree that the standards are a little unclear… the requirements are foggy…. we can all agree that Henry had a great season…. I would love to see an SEC player bring home some hardware over anybody else. I don’t have some deep-rooted hatred for Bama. Most people that do are just jealous. but I DO think that Christian McCaffrey had a more exceptional year, meant more to his team, did more than Henry. He should’ve gotten the trophy.
As pissed as the rest of the country was about Derrick dominating an entire season and winning over a kid who broke loose at the end of the season, I’m not surprised to see the award go McCaffrey’s way. He was one of the ONLY talents on his team this year and did shine through several categories. Derrick was the most marketable player on a beast roster and wasn’t required to touch the ball every down. Congrats to McCaffrey, he does deserve recognition and it gives those that are green with jealousy over crimson success something to cuddle at night. I assure you, Derrick doesn’t care and now only wants a ring and a big silver trophy that looks kinda vaginal in shape.
I’m not pissed about Henry… I just think when there is a guy out there that has 1,000+ more total yards than Henry, and broke the 27-year NCAA All-Purpose Yardage record, he should probably win the Heisman. You don’t just “break lose at the end of the season” and outgain the competition by 1000 yards…. and if you did, thats even more of a reason to win the trophy, not a subtraction. It’s weird that you mention McCaffrey’s “breaking loose at the end of the season” and “touching the ball every time”…… since Henry literally broke loose at the end of the season, and had a couple of 40+ touch games…….
I think those that bash Alabama and continue to say, he doesn’t deserve the Heisman are upset at the fact that he nor Coach Saban has marketed him. It wasn’t something they spoke about.. Getting back to and winning a title is what is and was more important during the season.
McCaffery is a good athelete and will be a good NFL player.. but remember the defensive players are bigger and faster.. his little frame might not hold up… But we will see..
his dad seemed to do pretty well in the NFL with the same genes
