Former Alabama Heisman Trophy winner and current Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Friday to talk about his time in the SEC and now, the NFL.

Henry said he believes this year’s Alabama team is still trying to find its identity. Leaders on the team will start establishing themselves more as the season goes along, he said.

When asked about the internal pressures of playing at Alabama, Henry offered some insight.

“We hold ourselves at a high standard. That’s something players before us have created,” he said. “How we play on Saturday, we always pride ourselves on working hard. You pride yourself on being the best in the country every day.”

Henry also compared the SEC to the NFL.

“It’s just like the NFL … You’ve got to bring it every day in the SEC,” he said. “You know that when you go against an SEC defense as an offensive player. In the NFL, you’ve got guys who have been here for years. There’s no class. It’s your day job and how you take care of your family.

“Guys study hard. They have more time to work on their craft. Guys in the NFL pay more attention to the little things. Guys in the NFL are really smart.”

Henry noted that playing in the SEC is similar to the pros because of the week-to-week grind.

“Playing in the SEC, every week anybody could be beat. Anything could happen. At Alabama, we had to prepare every week like we could get beat,” Henry said. “Every team is capable of doing that. At Alabama, we treated each opponent the same.

“It’s like playing in the NFL because of the athletes and the defenses you face.”
