Empire State Building turns crimson and white to celebrate DeVonta Smith winning Heisman Trophy

Due to COVID-19, this year’s Heisman Trophy finalists did not go to New York City for the award ceremony. As seen with events impacted by the pandemic, the ceremony for the 2020 Heisman was held virtually. ESPN broadcast from its studios with finalists, families and past Heisman winners contributing remotely.
Even though DeVonta Smith wasn’t in NYC to hoist the trophy, he was still recognized in the Big Apple. The Empire State Building turned crimson and white Tuesday night in Smith’s honor. ESPN shared a video of the awesome moment:

It’s too bad Smitty did not get to see this up close and in-person. Hopefully, the Heisman ceremony is back in New York City for the 2021 award.
Smith will have a vote for the 2021 Heisman, but it’s too early to know if his schedule will allow him to attend as he’ll certainly be on an NFL roster.
