After going undrafted, former Alabama defensive back Jared Mayden did not have to wait long to get his NFL opportunity.

According to multiple reports, Mayden will sign as a free agent with the San Francisco 49ers. In fact, going undrafted may have benefited Mayden as he got to pick his choice of team. AL.com’s Matt Zenitz reports that Mayden also fielded offers from the New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals and “at least a couple of other teams” but ultimately decided to sign with San Francisco. Zenitz shared those tidbits after confirming the intial San Francisco report by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.

A former 4-star recruit, Mayden played at Alabama from 2016-19. The Sachse, Texas native played in a total of 36 games, with 25 of those games coming the past two seasons. Over four seasons, he totaled 82 tackles, including 3 for loss, 1 sack. He recorded 10 total passes defended, including a team-leading 4 interceptions.
