Former Alabama offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood has signed to the Cleveland Browns practice squad days after being cut days ago by the Chicago Bears

During his time at Alabama, he was a two-time first-team All-SEC player (2019 and 2020), and a 2020 Unanimous All-American. He also won 2 two national championships in 2017 and 2020.

The Browns are the 3rd team that Leatherwood has been on in 3 seasons. Originally, the 2020 Outland Trophy winner was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders 17th overall in the 2021 NFL draft. After early struggles there, they moved him to guard, but released him on Aug. 31, 2022.

The Chicago Bears claimed Leatherwood after the Raiders cut him, but he was put on the reserve/non-football illness list on September 14, 2022.

Signing with the Browns is a very smart move by Leatherwood, as Cleveland has one of the very best offensive line coaches in the NFL.

Bill Calllahan enters his 45th season coaching, including 24 in the NFL. He has helped 14 offensive linemen reach 32 pro bowls during his career. The Browns have one of the better offensive lines in the NFL, and for Leatherwood, this is a perfect opportunity for him to learn from a great coach and work on getting back to being the player he was.
