Former Alabama star Patrick Surtain II is cashing in on a new contract extension ahead of the NFL season, according to mmultiple reports on Wednesday.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, Surtain and the Denver Broncos have reached an agreement on a 4-year contract that has a max value of $96 million. The deal includes $77.5 million guaranteed which makes it a record-setting contract.

The deal makes Surtain the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history.

Surtain was a star during his time at Alabama, anchoring the defense in 2020 that delivered a national title for the Crimson Tide. He finished that season as a unanimous All-American and the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year before becoming the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Since joining the Broncos, Surtain has appeared in 50 games with 49 starts across his first 3 seasons. He recorded 4 interceptions and 14 pass breakups as a rookie before delivering his first All-Pro selection in his 2nd season.

Last year, Surtain had just 1 interception but delivered 12 pass breakups and a career-high 69 tackles. He is one of the elite defenders in the NFL and is now cashing in ahead of the start of the NFL season.
