Former Crimson Tide LB Mekhi Brown responds to departure from Alabama following sideline tirade
Mekhi Brown wants everyone to know he wasn’t kicked off Alabama’s team. He left of his own free will.
If you somehow missed it, Brown had a tirade in the National Championship Game and had to be restained by his teammates after a brief altercation with an assistant coach. The moment went viral during the epic Alabama-Georgia title game.
Days later, Brown left the program for Tennessee Tech. An odd move, to say the least, especially considering Brown claims he was not dismissed from the program. Brown was a U.S. Army All-American in 2015 and was rated as a four-star prospect. Known as an emerging special teams performer for the Tide, Brown registered only seven tackles in his two seasons in Tuscaloosa.
Following his sideline tirade, Brown continued to play against Georgia, even making a key special teams tackle in the contest.

Wednesday, Brown issued this statement for anyone believing he was forced to leave Alabama for Tennessee State:
I wasn’t kicked off the team, I had my mind set on leaving early in the season. Coach Saban didn’t want me to leave and had no plans to kick me off the team…
