TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Tuscaloosa police arrested former National Football League and University of Alabama fullback Le’Ron McClain on drug charges Wednesday night.

West Alabama Narcotics Task Force officers made the arrest in the downtown area approximately two hours after issuing a release that McClain might be on the run after they had discovered 122 grams of synthetic marijuana, also known as Spice, during an investigation.

McClain had been told not to leave Tuscaloosa while officers were waiting on the lab results before using a warrant, but when they retuned to his house later Wednesday were told by McClain’s mother that he had left the state.

The police department tweeted at approximately 8 p.m: “Le’Ron McClain was just arrested in the 2300 Block of University Blvd by Narcotics Agents. He will be booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $500,000.00 Bond.”

McClain played for the Crimson Tide under Mike Shula from 2003-06. He’s had a seven-year NFL career with Baltimore, Kansas City and San Diego.
