Gary Danielson will be on the call for the “SEC on CBS” this week and is ready to look ahead to the Iron Bowl meeting on Saturday by looking at the matchup of the 2 head coaches.

Danielson joined CBS Sports HQ on Wednesday to preview the 88th edition of the Iron Bowl. He discussed his thoughts on the matchup from the perspective of the opposing head coaches of Alabama and Auburn.

“I think that this is a football team that believes they’ve got the right coach, and the right setting,” Danielson said. “I think they’re really disappointed, Auburn is, that they didn’t roll into this game after winning 3 in a row and making it 4 in a row. Obviously they were thinking ahead.”

Danielson continued to talk about the connections between the 2 head coaches, and what he’s hoping to see from the game on Saturday.

“Remember Nick was gonna hire Hugh Freeze if the liberty thing just broke a little bit differently. He could’ve been his offensive coordinator, I know there’s respect that goes both ways. Hugh has had success against them. Auburn has had success against them. Let’s put it this way, I’ll take the 2021 football game over again because that was a lot of fun. Bryce Young bringing them back, the overtimes, and everything about that game. Special things happen when they play at Jordan-Hare.”

Alabama has won 3-straight in the series against the Tigers, and it leads the all-time series with a record of 49-37-1. The most recent edition of this game was in 2022 when Alabama beat Auburn 49-27 in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn hosts Alabama this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
