It’s no secret that Clemson has become a match for Alabama’s dynasty, especially after the Tigers crushed the Crimson Tide 44-16 in Monday night’s national championship game.

But the programs are more on par than it seems on the surface.

ESPN shared a graphic Tuesday showing that Alabama and Clemson have identical records and the same number of national titles over the last four seasons. The teams have alternated championships in each of the past four years, a span over which they’ve both gone 55-4.

Clemson holds the edge in conference championships, having won the ACC in every year since 2015. The only time Alabama didn’t win the SEC over that span was in 2017, when it beat the Tigers in the College Football Playoff semifinals before ultimately defeating league champion Georgia in the national title game.

If these numbers are any indication, the Crimson Tide and Clemson will likely meet again in future CFPs and could be headed for another national title clash next year.
