Henry Ruggs III was sentenced to 3-10 years in prison for a fatal DUI crash in November of 2021 that left a woman and her dog dead in Las Vegas.

Ruggs, a former Alabama and Las Vegas Raiders receiver, has been on house arrest since pleading guilty in May to 1 count of DUI resulting in death and 1 count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

Ruggs was drunkenly driving at speeds in excess of 150 MPH on November 2, 2021 when he struck Tina Tintor, who was travelling at 43 MPH. A later blood draw revealed Ruggs’ blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit at .161.

According to a report from ESPN, Ruggs read the following Wednesday in a statement to the victim’s family: “To the parents and family of Ms. Tintor, I sincerely apologize for the pain and suffering.”

Tintor was 23 years old and died not from the crash itself, but the ensuing flames from the accident. Her dog, Max, was also killed in the wreck.

Tintor’s cousin, Daniel Strbac, read the following statement on behalf of Tintot’s mother Wednesday:

“We pray that this terrible accident inspires positive change in the world”, the statement read in part. “From the bottom of hearts, we absolutely love and appreciate all members of our church, Raider nation, the city of Las Vegas community and every individual who has shown up to remind us that we are not alone, and that Tina and Max are not alone.”

Ruggs could be eligible for parole after 3 years in prison.
