High school workout saves Dre Kirkpatrick some embarrassment
The Bengals took a field trip Sunday, practicing at West Carrollton High School instead of the team’s Cincinnati team facility. Soon after arriving following the hour-long bus trip, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick realized he did not bring any cleats with him. Being so far away from the team facility, Kirkpatrick had to think on his feet, so to speak.
“I was looking around and saw that Coach [Marvin Lewis] was addressing some of the [high school] team,” Kirkpatrick said, according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “I just went over and I asked him if anybody had a pair.”
Lucky for Kirkpatrick, one player offered his cleats. As fate would have it, the cleats fit – although not perfectly.
Kirkpatrick caused the 6,000 in attendance a scare when he was forced to head to the on-site trainer twice, however both trips were to tape his ankles thanks to wearing shoes one size too big.
“It worked out pretty good,” Kirkpatrick said. “It was just a blessing that he was there and he had his cleats. I want to tell him I appreciate him.”
Following the practice, Kirkpatrick gave back by being the last Bengal to leave the field after signing numerous autographs for the Bengals fans. Kirkpatrick even signed his borrowed cleats before giving them back to the generous high school player.
