Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles opened a new era with the former Alabama quarterback as the full-time starter.

He found a familiar target in DeVonta Smith as the rookie had an impressive debut himself. But Hurts finished with an impressive showing of 27-for-35 passing for 264 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was sacked once, but had a quarterback rating of 126.4. Smith, meanwhile, had 6 catches for 71 yards on 8 targets in the 32-6 Eagles win over the Falcons.

Hurts, a second-year player out of Oklahoma and Alabama, started 4 games for the Eagles last season and became the undisputed starter when Philadelphia traded Carson Wentz to the Colts in the offseason.

He was named a team captain, an honor he said “means the world” and reflects the work he has put in, the Associated Press reported.

“I don’t take it lightly,” Hurts said.
