Nick Saban made it clear after last year’s season opener that he didn’t want to talk about two different quarterbacks. Well, he had to at least one more time Monday, only on this occasion, he was asked about a quarterback no longer on the Alabama roster, Jalen Hurts.

After losing his starting job to Tua Tagovailoa last year, Hurts transferred to Oklahoma this past offseason. He made his debut with the Sooners on Sunday night against Houston throwing for as many touchdowns as incompletions.

When Saban was asked about Hurts’ incredible debut with Oklahoma during his Monday press conference, the Alabama coach said he wasn’t the least bit surprised.

“I didn’t see the game last night. We work on Sunday nights, but I hear he played extremely well and did an outstanding job,” Saban said of Hurts. “That doesn’t surprise me in the least bit.”

Saban went on to praise Hurts even more for how he handled losing the starting job at Alabama and added that he was “very happy for him.”

Hurts finished 20 of 23 passing for 332 yards, which means he averaged an astonishing 14.4 yards per attempt, Sunday night. He also rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns, accounting for six scores in all.
