John Parker Wilson evaluates Jalen Milroe ahead of Texas
John Parker Wilson is encouraged by the start to the season for starting quarterback Jalen Milroe as No. 3 Alabama gets set to clash with visiting No. 11 Texas in Week 2.
During a Friday appearance on McElroy And Cubelic In The Morning, the former Alabama quarterback raved about the strides the 6-foot-2 sophomore has made from last season to now.
The dynamic Milroe completed 13 of his 18 passes for 194 yards and 3 touchdowns, while also rushing for 48 yards and 2 scores in Alabama’s 56-7 win vs. Middle Tennessee.
“The biggest thing was his growth and his progression of being a better quarterback,” Wilson said. “I saw composure from him that the game, being the starter wasn’t too big for him. I thought he handled everything well.”
Wilson pinpointed Milroe’s 29-yard touchdown to Amari Niblack in the 3rd quarter as an example of his improvement.
“Where he kind of led the guy up the field away from the defenders and put some touch on the ball,” Wilson said. “He’s got a huge arm but I think he’s able to throw a lot of more different type passes this year than he did last year, which is going to make him that much better of a quarterback.”
Wilson also admired the way Milroe conducted himself amongst his teammates.
“I really like the way that he presented himself,” Wilson said. “…He looked like a leader out there.”
Alabama vs. Texas is set for Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. EST and will be televised on ESPN.
