Kirk Herbstreit compares the success, fan 'envy' of Alabama and New England dynasties
There are plenty of comparisons to be made between Alabama and New England’s success. Between the Nick Saban and Bill Belichick connections, to the many assistants and underlings that have crossed paths under both legendary coaches, to the success each franchise annually achieves on the field.
Of course, there’s another thing both football program’s share — a long list of haters.
While Alabama has just captured another national title and New England appears poised to do the same after winning the AFC Championship Game and advancing to the Super Bowl, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit took a moment to appreciate the excellence of the Patriots following Sunday’s come from behind win.
After catching some heat, a Twitter user asked Herbstreit a fair question:
Why do people hate excellence? The Patriots exemplify excellence and are therefore hated. I love em!! https://t.co/70lwkxRkKi

Here’s the college football analyst’s response:
Same reason people hate Bama and Saban—Envy. I’m not a “fan” of either but an admirer of their achievements, consistency, and excellence! Incredible to watch. https://t.co/gr36RfUG6O
