The top three teams in the College Football Playoff rankings are set — Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame. All three are undefeated, and should remain in the top three spots unless they lose.

During Tuesday night’s rankings show, though, the analysts discussed their doomsday scenarios for the selection committee, and Kirk Herbstreit’s was interesting.

Herbie said that if Alabama loses to Georgia in the SEC title game, it presents a difficult choice to the committee, as both Georgia and Bama would probably deserve spots in the final four (via 247Sports):

“If Alabama loses to Georgia, that’s the worst-case scenario for the committee,” he said. “You start throwing all these other teams in the mix. Georgia has to be in. Who would be left out? That would be armageddon this year for the committee.”

Of course, Georgia would still have to beat Alabama for this scenario to take place, and that doesn’t look like an easy task at this point.

However, if it does happen, you can expect a fierce debate to wage among media members and fans when the final four is announced.
