Lane Kiffin didn’t wait long to chime in on Alabama’s reported hiring of Kalen DeBoer to be its next head coach.

DeBoer is set to replace Nick Saban after bringing Washington all the way to the national championship game this past season. DeBoer, 49, will be tasked with replacing one of the most decorated head coaches in college football history.

Kiffin, a former Alabama assistant, had to this say after reports of DeBoer’s hiring started to circulate on Friday:

It’s not precisely clear what Kiffin means with that remark. Because the SEC is getting rid of its divisional structures as it adds Oklahoma and Texas, Alabama and Ole Miss will not play each other in 2024.

However, because of the SEC’s new structure, it would be possible for Ole Miss and Alabama to meet in the SEC Championship Game next season. Both the Rebels and the Tide are expected to contend for the SEC in 2024 and perhaps could reach the newly-expanded College Football Playoff.

The SEC has not released its schedule for the 2025 season, so it’s unclear when Kiffin will face off against DeBoer’s Crimson Tide in the regular season for the first time.
