For a year-and-a-half, Jayson Jones had been committed to Alabama. Despite that, the 4-star defensive lineman didn’t end up signing with the Crimson Tide.

On Wednesday, Jones flipped his commitment and signed with Oregon on National Signing Day. But it wasn’t a completely unexpected move, as he took an official visit with the Ducks on Jan. 24 and met with head coach Mario Cristobal on Jan. 31.

Jones committed to Alabama on July 2, 2018. But when he didn’t sign with the Tide during the Early Signing Period, it became apparent that he was still strongly considering other options. That was followed up by him taking visits to Baylor and Oregon.

Jones announced his decision to sign with the Ducks on Twitter:

Despite not landing Jones, it was still a successful 2020 recruiting cycle for Alabama. The Crimson Tide ranked second in the 247sports Composite team rankings, behind only Georgia.
