Nate Oats’ 4-seed Alabama squad won’t be at full strength for Friday’s First Round NCAA Tournament game against 13-seed College of Charleston.

On Thursday, Oats revealed that reserve guard Davin Cosby is out with a foot injury.

“Davin broke his foot in practice earlier this week, so he’s out, so we’re not a hundred percent fully healthy,” Oats told reporters. “That’s the one injury, and it was unfortunate. I think he stepped on somebody’s foot. He continued to practice, but then when we got it X-rayed after practice, it’s got a break in one of the bones, so he is out.”

Oats did have some positive news. Nick Pringle will be available.

Pringle was not on the team flight to Spokane. He was spotted on a commercial flight Thursday.

“Nick’s available to play (Friday),” Oats said. “Nick’s with the team. He was dealing with a personal issue, and he’s here with us now, and should be good to go tomorrow.”

Pringle’s absence generated speculation and rumors. The forward was suspended twice by Oats for undisclosed issues. The Tide head coach clarified both teams that there were no off-the-court problems with Pringle.

With depth concerns, having Pringle is a plus

Every team wants to be at full strength for the NCAA Tournament, but Cosby’s absence is unlikely to have a huge impact.

Cosby played in 22 of 32 games, averaging 7.8 minutes per contest.

Most recently, Cosby played 8 minutes at Florida on March 5 and 4 minutes in the regular-season finale at home against Arkansas. He played 13 minutes at Ole Miss and 10 minutes in the home loss to Tennessee. Cosby did not play in the SEC Tournament loss to Florida.

Having Pringle available is key. At 6-10 and 230 pounds, Pringle is important for size matchups.

Pringle has played in 29 games, including 13 starts, averaging 17.9 minutes per contest. He started Alabama’s last two contests, recording a season-high of 36 minutes in the Arkansas game and playing 22 minutes in the conference tournament. On the season, Pringle averages 6.9 points and 5 rebounds per game.

Alabama and Charleston are set to tipoff at 7:35 p.m. ET.
