An Alabama defensive back’s college career has come to an end early, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced in his Wednesday press conference.

Saban revealed to reporters that the Alabama medical staff will not clear DB Nigel Knott to play football for medical reasons.

“The medical staff decided it was not in his best interest to continue to play football,” Saban told reporters.

Saban added that Knott will continue to take classes and attend school at Alabama. The Madison, Mississippi native was set to enter his redshirt junior season with the Crimson Tide. The 2016 signee redshirted his freshman season, played in two games as a redshirt freshman in 2017 and 10 games as a redshirt sophomore last season.

Knott had not practiced with the team since the spring.
