Nick Saban is considered by many to be the greatest college football coach ever. However, he’s not too prideful to admit when he was wrong.

The Alabama head coach issued an apology to Bama Central reporter Austin Hannon after dismissing a postgame question about quarterback Jalen Milroe.

Hannon asked Saban if Milroe’s performance vs. Middle Tennessee in which he accounted for 5 touchdowns (3 passing, 2 rushing), would provide a boost of confidence going forward for the sophomore.

Saban fired back with a prop and said: “This is a coke bottle, it’s not a crystal ball.”

After some time of reflection, Saban gave the reporter a more thoughtful answer.

“You didn’t ask a bad question the other night. I just didn’t answer it very well. When a guy plays well in a game at any position, it should help his confidence and it should help him perform better in the future,” Saban said. “But I do think that every player has to understand that just because I played well, I still want to try to improve the few things I could’ve done better.”

Saban added that it’s essential for players to build positive habits and remain eager to make strides on their craft.

“I think if a person keeps that mindset, then they’re always improving because you’re never satisfied and you’re always trying to do better,” Saban said.

Saban is optimistic that the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Milroe will have an even better performance in the Week 2 showdown between No. 3 Alabama and visiting No. 11 Texas.

“You don’t let complacency creep into your game. That certainly hasn’t happened with Jalen. Hopefully the confidence that he gained in this game will certainly help him to continue to play better and better in the future,” Saban said. “That’s what we hope for as coaches. That’s what we try to encourage them to do. That should’ve been my answer the other night.”
