Nick Saban asks Alabama fans to remain 'supportive' during transition year
Nick Saban is asking for Alabama fans to remain supportive of the program during this difficult first season under coach Kalen DeBoer.
Alabama has already dropped 2 games so far this season, most recently against Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday night. The Crimson Tide faithful have been frustrated with the performances in several games this season, but Saban is asking for fans to stick with the program during this year of transition.
“I’m a fan now. So I think the message that I would give to everybody is, the most important thing all of us can do as fans for Alabama is to be supportive,” Saban said at an event on Monday. “Support the program, support the players, the coaches.
“That will enhance us to be able to have the best solution in transition. Because it’s always a difficult transition when you have a fairly successful program and somebody else comes in. It’s very challenging. So I’ve been very supportive of the players, the coaches, the team, the university in every way that I can. And I’m going to continue to do that and I would encourage others to do the same.”

Alabama is set to host Missouri on Saturday afternoon.
The state of Tennessee owns bama. Cry about it.
We’re 2-2 in the last 4 and 2-17 in the last 19! Which part do the Volunqueers own?
Losing to vandy and Tenn in the same year=the state of Tenn owns bama. Pretty simple math there bud.
1. March 21, 2022 Nico Iamaleava commits to Vols.
2. May 18, 2022 Saban goes out of his way at a World Games conference to complain about NIL.
3. October 15, 2022 Vols set record 52 on Saban.
4. January 2023 Saban meets with Byrne “getting more and more difficult” Blames NIL. Moves to “year to year” status.
5. March 3, 2023 Saban complains about having to play Tennessee every year.
6. March 7, 2023 Saban complains about up-tempo offenses.
7. March 7, 2023 Saban proposes NCAA rule change to slow up offenses – blames safety not Tennessee. No change made.
8. October 19, 2023 On his radio show, Saban comments on Tennessee’s speed offense and begs fans to interrupt it. “1 time I’m asking you to do this.”
9. Jan 1, 2024 Nico leads Tennessee to 35-0 blanking of Big10 #2 Iowa.
10. Jan 10, 2024 Saban quits.
Tennessee made Saban quit and almost put the NCAA in jail. Saban was not a good coach. The NFL proved that. He was a good administrator. He is still trying to hold it together for the program’s sake, but he is making Pac 12 Alabama look weak because he won’t get out of the way. He knew when to fold them, but not when to walk away. He may have to run.
That’s a pretty bold false accusation against the best coach in college football of all time… have some class and represent your school better.
Your school beat arguably the worst Alabama team since 2007 by only one touchdown, at home the first year after Saban retired. You lost to Arkansas. Cool it.
I support the program and always will. That does not mean that I can’t see and comment on what is wrong. He has a team with at least a top 3 talent rating, and his refusal to demand accountability, and his inability to instill passion and discipline in the players is never going to be overlooked. Support does not equal unequivocal approval of the product.
You have to read between the lines. Saban is saying that Pac 12 Alabama is losing recruits to Tennessee and you need to be unconditionally supportive or it will get worse faster. Additionally, your rating is currently #1 and falling fast.
Hush Nick. You and other coaching greats that make these “be supportive and patient” statements ironically makes a fan base less supportive and more impatient. Deboer is supposed to be a big boy getting paid $10M to deal with your lunatic and unrealistic fan base. He’s your Mark Richt, your Larry Coker, your Ron Zook. But guess what? The coaching in this league keeps getting better and Nick would have lost more than what he did. And this only amplifies the job King Kirby is doing when other coaches quit (Little Nikki) or get fired (Jimbo, Coach O). Fact it: Deboer is a dud, a slow coach in a fast car coaches league. By this time next year, your little nerd AD will be reaching out to coaches.
