It took a game-winning field goal for Alabama to put away a Texas team that it was favored to beat by 21.5 points in Week 2.

Nick Saban has been around long enough to know anything can happen in any given week.

With the Tide set to face Louisiana-Monroe in Week 3, let’s throw it back to 2007, Saban’s first year in Tuscaloosa, when the Warhawks upset Alabama 21-14. Nick Saban was asked about the loss in Monday’s press conference ahead of the matchup.

“History doesn’t seem to be on the forefront sometimes,” Saban said. “Players seem to respond better to things that affect them.”

It was a textbook Saban response, but to be fair, his current players most likely aren’t old enough to even remember the loss. In addition to that, the majority of the current staff wasn’t even there, so the 2007 loss really means nothing to the program.

Since Saban took over, Alabama has claimed 6 national titles and 8 SEC titles, so it is likely the last thing on the players’ minds. Alabama has enough motivation after barely escaping Texas in Week 2.
