Nick Saban was asked about talented offensive tackle JC Latham, who is growing into a more significant role at Alabama a season after he saw action in 14 games,

Latham missed only the SEC Championship against Georgia, as he started on the Crimson Tide’s PAT and field goal units on special teams. Overall, he earned 104 snaps in his rookie campaign.

“He’s made a lot of progress, he’s a lot more confident,” Saban said. “I think he’s got a better understanding of what he’s supposed to do. Why it’s important to do it that way. How he’s supposed to do it, and he’s playing extremely well. I’m pleased with both tackles so far in camp.”

Coming out of high school, Latham was listed at 6-6, 305 pounds, and is rated the No. 5 offensive tackle and the No. 17 prospect overall nationally in the class of 2021 on the 247Sports Composite. He chose Alabama over Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Saban isn’t the only one who sees a potential big season for Latham. Emil Ekiyor explained earlier this week.

“That is my guy,” Ekiyor said of Latham. “He came in from day one as a freshman and was ready to work. He and I this summer got in a lot of reps. We would come here in the morning to get extra sets in. I am taking him under my wing as an older guy. He has put in a lot of work this offseason, and I feel he’s ready to have a big year.”
