Nick Saban and Alabama had a last-gasp defensive effort to pull out a win over Texas A&M on Saturday night as a pass from the 2-yard line fell incomplete for the Aggies, and the Crimson Tide held on for a 24-20 victory.

“It was a great win for our team, we had a lot of adversity to overcome, especially with Bryce not being able to play,” Saban said to Jenny Dell of CBS Sports. “Jalen made some plays, but we had no consistency on offense. Defense made the play when they had to but it’s a great win and a great atmosphere to play in, the crowd had a lot to do with this win.”

Next week, Alabama has a showdown at Tennessee in a game that will be the biggest in that rivalry in some 2 decades.

“Tennessee’s got a really good team, hopefully we’ll get some of the things we did wrong fixed,” Saban said. “Maybe we’ll get the quarterback healthy, too.”

Throughout the game, from halftime to the post-game Saban lamented that Jalen Milroe made too many mistakes which led to turnovers while he replaced Bryce Young, who missed the game with a shoulder injury. Young’s status will be closely watched ahead of the Tennessee game.
