AJ McCarron has gotten his name back into the news in Tuscaloosa over the last few days. First he sent an odd tweet about wanting to take over at quarterback for the Crimson tide in the fourth quarter against Ole Miss. He followed that up on Monday by criticizing Alabama’s leadership on offense this season, as well as coaches Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin.

Saban heard his former quarterback’s statements and responded during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday.

“I don’t know how AJ would know,” Saban said during the call. “I think that leadership is something that we have several guys that have played a lot of football around here that do a good job.”

Saban went on to say that leadership doesn’t always have to come from the quarterback position, as McCarron intimated, and Saban stook up for his current quarterback, Blake Sims.

“I think Blake does a pretty (good) job of (being) very well-liked by his teammates. He’s a very positive, high-energy guy that has shown leadership,” Saban said.

Several media members, including Colin Cowherd, Stewart Mandel and NFL legend Fran Tarkenton, have criticized McCarron for his comments as well.
