Nick Saban recently shared some of his thoughts on NIL and the current state of college athletics. Saban was asked about Ohio State AD Gene Smith recently mentioning that “guardrails” need to be put in place involving NIL. Smith also dropped an interesting comment about recruits wanting $5,000 per visit.

Saban was asked if he had been approached with this demand by any prospects.

“Not that I know of,” declared Saban. “But look, Name, Image, and Likeness is not really name, image, and likeness. I mean, I think we all understand what it’s become.”

Saban has not been shy about voicing his displeasures regarding the current state of college athletics.

“We’re just adapting to what we have to do to be able to compete whatever the circumstances are. Do I think that it would be judicious to have some guardrails on some things? I think you can figure that one out just as well as anybody else,” Saban explained.

Saban famously accused Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M of “buying” their record-breaking 2021 recruiting class.

Saban’s Crimson Tide will next travel to Starkville to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Week 5.
