SEC coaches’ actions on social media, particularly Twitter, have generated a lot of headlines the past few weeks. Lane Kiffin has taken to trolling rivals with road sign photos, and another SEC West assistant spoke his mind about a recent decommitment, making a bad recruiting situation worse.

One might expect Nick Saban to see what happened in College Station and set social media rules for his own coaching staff to avoid a recruiting nightmare. For now, the Crimson Tide coaches are using common sense guidelines.

“We don’t have rules that people can’t use Twitter,” Saban told AL.com’s Michael Casagrande. “We just want people to be responsible. We certainly don’t want them to do anything that’s going to affect themselves in an adverse way or affect our program, our university or our team in an adverse way.”

It’s not that Saban himself is an avid Twitter user, but rather that he sees no reason to create rules where there are currently none.

“I don’t Twitter,” Saban said. “I don’t text for those very reasons. I don’t want anything to be misinterpreted. I would encourage our guys not to do that. You know, it’s a free country. I know we have a lot of regulations in the world right now in what we can and can’t do. I would rather our people be responsible and not have to be regulated.”

Your bitmojis are safe for now, Lane.
