Since Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa was injured three weeks ago against Tennessee, the reports of his rehab and recovery from a right ankle sprain have been largely positive. That’s continued in recent days as he’s made it to the practice field and appears to be on track to play Saturday in the huge game against LSU.
But SEC Network host Paul Finebaum on his regular weekly appearance on “The Roundtable” on Birmingham-based JOX 94.5 radio station, Finebaum said there’s one thing most people are talking about.
“I’ve heard that he has recovered better than anyone expected,” he said. “Putting a percentage on it is very difficult, but people down there are putting it at a very high percentage and they fully expect him to start the game and play well. I think the answer everyone doesn’t have is what happens if he gets hit hard. I think that could be the key to the game.”
Finebaum reminded listeners that the similar injury last year to his left ankle is not the same as this year with his right ankle. Doctors have performed the same “tight rope” procedure to stabilize the ankle, but it’s not the plant foot when passing.
“In terms of him coming back from the surgery, I think it’s very good,” Finebaum said. “… This is a completely different situation than a year ago when it was more complicated, it was a more serious injury, and I think everybody is very upbeat.”
