The Outland Trophy is one of the more unique college football awards, including offensive and defensive players as nominees for top interior lineman. As such, Alabama OL Johan Williams and Quinnen Williams found themselves going up against each other (along with Clemson DT Christian Wilkins).

The Football Writers Association of America voters ultimately went with Quinnen Williams. He joins Chris Samuels (1999), Andre Smith (2008), Barrett Jones (2011) and Cam Robinson (2016) as UA’s fifth winner of the award.

A redshirt sophomore likely NFL bound, Williams leads the team with 18 tackles for loss and leads all Crimson Tide defensive linemen with 66 tackles. Williams also ranks second on the squad with eight sacks. He also logged 11 quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and a safety.
