What is Nick Saban really like? According to one of Alabama’s latest commitments, the leader of the Crimson Tide program couldn’t be more different than the public persona some perceive when they think of college football’s greatest coach.

Jayson Jones is currently rated as Alabama’s No. 1 overall prospect for the 2020 recruiting cycle and despite having two more seasons of high school football remaining in his prep career, the Calera native has already publicly pledged his commitment to play for Saban in Tuscaloosa already. If you missed it, Jones announced his decision this week in a video that trolled Georgia.

The opportunity to play for Saban was a major factor in Jones’ final decision. After becoming an Alabama commit, the 2020 lineman prospect from Calera offered up these comments on his future head coach.

“Nobody (on the outside) really gets to see his true personality. They’ve always shown that he’s really negative, a bad person, ‘Oh he doesn’t play you until your senior or he doesn’t play you at all.’ But all of that is false. He played the most freshmen last year and he’s going to do whatever it takes to win,” Jones said in an interview with WBRC FOX 6 News.

“The funny thing is me and him do talk a lot. Each time I’m down there, he loves talking to me, I love talking to him. He’s a great person, which is so important because if you can’t connect with… especially your teammates and your coaches, than you are going to have a bad experience.”

There’s the latest proof that Saban can still connect with young prospects on the recruiting trail and a big reason why Alabama currently has the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class for the 2019 recruiting cycle and are positioned in the top three for the 2020 recruiting cycle. As long as Saban is calling the shots in Tuscaloosa, Alabama is poised to be the nation’s top recruiting machine until another program consistently proves otherwise.
