Alabama fans are well-aware of former Crimson Tide LB Reggie Ragland’s knack for covering an amazing amount of ground as a defender.

ESPN’s Sports Science recently got some time with the All-American LB, and the numbers from their tests were quite impressive.

The segment focuses on his explosiveness, which allows him to accelerate quickly in small spaces.

He registered a top speed of 18.3 MPH in a 20-yard dash, which is incredibly fast for such a short distance.

Ultimately, it’s determined that it is the strength in Ragland’s calves that provide the short-range explosiveness.

His calves measure at a 19-inch circumference, which the show notes is bigger than a standard fire extinguisher.

The Sport Science’s staff conclusion? Ragland is comparable to All-Pro NFL LB NaVorro Bowman.

Ragland is projected as a first round pick in next week’s NFL Draft, and for good reason.
