With Steve Sarkisian unexpectedly leaving Alabama in order to become the new offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons, Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide will need to recalibrate in order to find another orchestrator of the high-powered offense.

This is the second OC Saban will have had to replace in the past month. Lane Kiffin left in order to take the FAU head coaching position. Sarkisian was then promoted to the position — before leaving only a few weeks later.

With the likes of Jalen Hurts, Bo Scarbrough, Trevon Diggs, Calvin Ridley, and Damien Harris returning, the cupboard is well-stocked for any new offensive coordinator to come in and have tremendous success.

According to a report from 247Sports, Saban already has one name in mind for the vacant spot.

Former NFL OC George Godsey was expected to interview for the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach position in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday.

The former Georgia Tech alum spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans — before he and the team mutually decided to part ways. Prior to that, he spent three years in New England under Bill Belichick, and seven seasons at UCF as both a quarterbacks coach and as a running backs coach.

Godsey does have two links to the Alabama program. He worked with both associate AD Ed Marynowitz and offensive line coach Brent Key at UCF. He also played with Key at Georgia Tech.

Alabama’s offense has included pro elements throughout the Kiffin era. Should Godsey get the job, there likely won’t be much of a deviation from running the football to set up the pass. This premise has worked quite well for the Crimson Tide in the past, and it likely won’t be changing anytime soon.
