Alex Marvez of Sirius XM reports, per a source, that long-time Alabama assistant Burton Burns is leaving to be the Giants’ running backs coach. Burns was Saban’s running backs coach from 2007-17 before moving to an off-field role as assistant athletics director for football ahead of the 2018 season when Saban hired Joe Pannunzio as the new running backs coach. The Burns-coached running backs Alabama put in the NFL during Saban’s tenure, including Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry, are often cited in the ongoing “RBU” debate.

The Burns report follows the news that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett will be the Giants’ new offensive coordinator. Garrett was the Miami Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach for the 2005 and ’06 seasons on Saban’s staff.
