Alabama head coach Nick Saban looks to have made a big move to his offensive coaching staff as several reports indicate former Florida State Heisman-winning quarterback Chris Weinke will be joining the Crimson Tide’s staff.

Long-time Tennessee beat reporter John Brice reported the news of Weinke joining the Alabama staff this morning:

That news has been confirmed via Aaron Suttles of Tide Sports. Suttles reports Weinke will be an offensive analyst for Alabama.

Weinke recently interviewed for the open quarterbacks coach position at Tennessee, that job ultimately went to Mike Canales. The 2000 Heisman winner from Florida State spent last season with the Los Angeles Rams, coaching up first overall selection Jared Goff. Before landing with the Rams, Weinke served as Director of Football and head coach at IMG Academy in Florida, helping train many of the elite football prospects in the nation.

During his playing career, Weinke won the 1999 national championship with Florida State and helped lead the Seminoles to another national title game appearance in 2000. Weinke was the starting quarterback for much of the 1998 season, when the Seminoles again reached the championship game – although Weinke was hurt and missed the title game against Tennessee.
