RJ Young explains how Tyler Buchner can win the starting job at Alabama

RJ Young called Tyler Buchner the most intriguing entry into and out of the transfer portal. The FOX Sports analyst pointed out that Nick Saban and Tommy Rees have 5 scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, but also don’t know exactly what they have in terms of a starter.
Young added that Rees, who is not bringing his own playbook but tweaking Alabama’s, would want to feel very comfortable with the starting quarterback, and that’s when Buchner enters the picture. Young recalled that Buchner won the job at Notre Dame in 2022, started against Ohio State and didn’t look bad.
Against South Carolina, Buchner was 18-for-33 for 273 yards passing in the bowl game with 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. Young called that “Tyler Buchner-esque.”
Young explained that if Buchner can show he can get on the ground, and not take so many hits and putting himself in a poor position where he’s forcing throws or making bad decisions.
“If he can do that,” Young said, “at Alabama in preseason, I believe he could be the guy.”
