Former Alabama guard D.J. Fluker is doing well for himself playing professional football. This summer, however, it’s an especially fun time to be playing football in Southern California. Fluker is obviously happy to be a member of the San Diego Chargers, but this offseason, he can’t help but think of something else – bragging rights.

When AL.com recently checked in on Fluker, who played for Alabama from 2009-12, the subject of college football naturally came up:

One of the reporters gathered around Fluker on the practice field asked him about the Crimson Tide’s season-opening game against Southern Cal on Sept. 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

“Hey, man, let me tell you something: Alabama’s going to steamroll USC,” Fluker said. “West Coast boys do not want none of that Down South football. We’re hard-nosed. Just believe that.”

Never mind that San Diego is about 125 miles away from USC campus, for guys like Fluker the Alabama-USC is all about, as he puts it, the West Coast vs. the Deep South. While it’s probably not many people’s definition of “steamroll,” the Crimson Tide is currently a double-digit favorite (10-to-11 points) at most sports books according to Vegas Insider.

If Alabama can top the Trojans, it’s safe to assume that the San Diego media will be hearing about it from Fluker.
