Alabama coach Nick Saban has never started a freshman quarterback since taking over the program in 2007.

Redshirt freshman Blake Barnett started against USC on Saturday, but has yet to lead a scoring drive.

That prompted Saban to call on true freshman QB Jalen Hurts, who didn’t exactly endear himself to the five-time national champion coach:

Hurts returned to the field for the Tide’s next drive, but Alabama went three-and-out and had to punt.

Through one quarter of play, No. 1 Alabama trails No. 20 USC 3-0.
