The culture in Alabama may seem a bit strange to outsiders, as The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper found out in a Tuscaloosa-centered segment that premiered Monday.

In a quest to find out what makes the state go, Klepper sat down at Rama Jama’s across the street from Bryant-Denny Stadium with some familiar faces from the Paul Finebaum Show. Unsurprisingly, the conversation quickly turned to Alabama football and the pride instilled by its success. Finebaum summed it up by saying “[Alabama football] is the most successful product that (the state of) Alabama exports.”

There was a bit of a cultural disconnect, as Klepper tried to say “Roll Tide” with jazz hands, drawing some disappointed head shaking from the ‘Bama faithful.

Though Klepper never truly got it, there were plenty of laughs along the way as the self-proclaimed northern elitist tried to understand life in Tuscaloosa.
