Warde Manuel spoke about the CFP selection committee’s initial rankings reveal on a teleconference on Tuesday evening.

This is Manuel’s first rankings reveal as the chair of the CFP selection committee. On the teleconference, Manuel was asked to explain why Alabama was the committee’s highest-ranked 2-loss team going into Week 11.

Alabama is at No. 11 in the rankings that were revealed on Tuesday night, ahead of No. 14 Texas A&M, No. 15 LSU, No. 16 Ole Miss and other 2-loss programs. Manuel said, among other things, that Alabama’s win over Georgia stands out.

“We obviously view them as the highest-ranked two-loss team at this time,” Manuel said. “The home win against Georgia was impressive. What they just did against Missouri, a 24th ranked Missouri team. The loss to Vanderbilt on the road at Vanderbilt was something that we also looked at as well as the road loss at Tennessee. Tennessee is ranked No. 7. They’re top 20 in scoring. Their defense is always solid, holding teams to less than 20 points per game. Those things impressed the committee.”

While Alabama is currently projected to make the field, it still has a lot of work to do — beginning this weekend. The Crimson Tide will travel to LSU to take on the Tigers in what has been billed as a Playoff elimination game. The loser is guaranteed to pick up their third loss of the 2024 season.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
