The initial College Football Playoff rankings for the 2024 season have been revealed.

It’s a new era for the CFP, as it will expand to 12 teams beginning this fall. The 5 highest-ranked conference champions will all receive automatic bids, leaving 7 spots open for at-large berths. In addition, the top 4 highest-ranked conference champs will all receive first-round byes.

However, the CFP selection committee’s rankings will not necessarily reflect what the bracket will look like when it is finalized at the end of the regular season. For example, there could be multiple teams in the top 4 from the SEC, Big Ten or any other conference in any given CFP selection committee rankings reveal.

First round games of the CFP will be played on campus sites from Dec. 20-21. Four quarterfinal matchups will then be split between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 at bowl sites — one NYE game will take place at the Fiesta Bowl while Peach, Rose and Sugar Bowl contests happen on New Year’s Day.

For the semifinals, those games will be on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10 at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl, respectively. The national championship game will be played in Atlanta on Jan. 20.

Here’s a look at the first-ever top 25 from the CFP selection committee in the 12-team Playoff era:
