Antonio Alfano became the latest elite recruit headed to Tuscaloosa when he signed with Alabama on Wednesday, the first day of the Early Signing Period.

As the 5-star defensive end explained in an appearance on CBS Sports Network, which you can see in the tweet below, picking the Crimson Tide over other finalists Georgia and Penn State came down to one simple factor.

“Alabama is the best in the country,” Alfano said. “I’ve always worked my whole entire high school career to be the best player in the country. … I have goals of getting to the NFL and being the best and being a top-10 pick in the draft. What better place to do it than Alabama?”

There are few schools that rival Alabama in producing NFL talent, a legacy Alfano clearly wants to continue. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound defensive end out of Colonia, New Jersey, sure seems to fit the mold — 247Sports.com’s composite ratings peg him as the best player from his state, the third-best player at his position and the No. 28 prospect nationally in 2019.

Alfano also discussed how former Crimson Tide safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, a first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft who also hails from New Jersey, inspired him to attend Alabama.
