WATCH: Alabama fans sing Rammer Jammer after dominating Duke
After a scoreless first quarter in Saturday’s Chick-fil-A Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the Alabama Crimson Tide began to turn on the jets and took a 14-3 lead over the Duke Blue Devils into halftime.
Alabama added two more touchdowns in the third quarter and went on to cruise to a 42-3 win.
With the game comfortably in hand, the “Million Dollar Band” and the Tide fans in attendance celebrated the season-opening win by partaking in the Rammer Jammer Cheer.
One of the most unique traditions in the SEC, the lyrics to the cheer originate from The Rammer-Jammer, a University of Alabama student magazine in the 1920s.
Saturday marked the sixth time that Alabama has participated in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff in the event’s 12-year history. Now 6-0 all-time in the event, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa got his junior campaign started with a bang, completing 26-31 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns.
The Crimson Tide outgained the Blue Devils by over 300 yards and won the time of possession battle by over 13 minutes.
The first game of the 2019 season at Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama will host New Mexico State on Saturday, September 7 at 4:00PM ET.
